BYU women’s basketball knocks off Oklahoma State 68-64
It’s BYU’s first win over a nationally-ranked team since defeating Baylor in Provo on February 7 last year.
The win improves BYU’s record to 13-12 overall and 4-10 in Big 12 play.
BYU’s star players Delaney Gibb, Amari Whiting, and Emma Calvert put together a 7-0 run to regain the lead in the fourth quarter.
Leading 62-60, freshman Kambree Barber made a game-changing play, grabbing the offensive rebound off a missed free throw by Whiting. Barber then went up and earned the putback to BYU up by two possessions with 29 seconds remaining.
Oklahoma State’s Micah Gray hit a three to trim the BYU lead to one at 64-63. Then BYU stars Gibb and Calvery iced the game away from the free throw line to give the Cougars their second consecutive Big 12 victory at home.
Emma Calvert led all scorers with 19 points, followed by freshman star Delaney Gibb with 14.
BYU kept Oklahoma State in check from three-point range as the Pokes only knocked down 21% from beyond the arc. The Cougars shot 32% from three against one of the Big 12’s top defenses against the three in conference play.
Up next for BYU
BYU has two weeks left in the regular season. They will travel to Tucson to take on the Arizona Wildcats on Wednesday, February 19, followed by a home game against Arizona State next Saturday.
