BYU Basketball Grounded In Iowa Due To Blizzard Weather

BYU basketball is red-hot right now, extending its winning streak to seven games.
However, its red-hot play on the court couldn’t overcome Mother Nature’s forces.
As of the late afternoon on Wednesday, the 23rd-ranked Cougars remained in Iowa. One day after taking down No. 10 Iowa State 88-85 at Hilton Coliseum in double-overtime.
A BYU spokesperson confirmed the team staying in Iowa on Wednesday.
UPDATE: BYU landed in Provo around midnight on Thursday, March 6th.
BYU is still in Iowa due to the windy, blizzard conditions in the Midwest. The Des Moines, Iowa, area had a high wind warning throughout the day.
The National Weather Service had the High Wind Warning ending around 6 p.m. (CST) on Wednesday night.
BYU basketball stayed in Iowa due to blizzard weather in the Midwest
Hours before Tuesday’s game between the Cougars and Cyclones, Iowa State University announced that classes would be partially closed on campus on March 5 due to expected blizzard conditions.
Weather forecasts from Iowa media outlets projected the blizzard to begin last night around 11 p.m. (CST). BYU’s game against Iowa State began at 8 p.m. (CST) and took two hours and 49 minutes to complete as it extended to double overtime.
The ROC, BYU’s student section, was planning to greet the BYU basketball team last night at the Provo Airport, but that was canceled because the team had to stay in Iowa overnight.

BYU’s official social media team posted a video of the team from NAIA’s Grand View University in Des Moines. Egor Demin and Townsend Tripple were playing a round of “Knockout.”

BYU is 22-8 overall this season and 13-6 in the Big 12. The Cougars will close out the regular season against rival Utah on Saturday, March 8, at the Marriott Center at 8 p.m. (MST) on ESPNU and KSL NewsRadio.
