Whiting coached at BYU for three seasons and posted an overall record of 45-51. The Cougars had three losing seasons during Whiting’s three years as the head coach.
She led BYU in their transition from the West Coast Conference to the Big 12.
Before landing the BYU job in 2022, Whiting was the head coach at Burley High School in Idaho.
Whiting’s BYU program appeared to have a breakthrough win on February 15 when they defeated No. 20 Oklahoma State. However, BYU followed that win up with five consecutive losses.
Two of the losses were in overtime, and the final setback was in the first round of the Big 12 Tournament against UCF earlier this week.
They finished the season with a 13-17 record.
BYU had a young roster this past season that featured five freshmen and sophomore Amari Whiting, Amber Whiting’s daughter.

Among the freshmen was Big 12 Freshman of the Year Delaney Gibb, who also earned Second Team All-Big 12 honors. Gibb emerged as one of the nation’s best college basketball freshman players this season.
BYU announced that the interim head coach will be Lee Cummard while the program looks for a replacement for Whiting.
