SALT LAKE CITY – According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Dallas Mavericks superstar guard Luka Doncic will miss game one of the opening-round playoff series against the Utah Jazz, and there’s significant doubt about game two.

On Thursday, Shams Charania of The Athletic reported that Doncic was likely to miss game one after suffering a calf strain in the Mavericks season finale victory over the San Antonio Spurs last Sunday.

Wojnarowski confirmed the report regarding game one and shed more light on the Doncic injury ahead of game two.

“Dallas Mavericks All-Star Luka Doncic (calf strain) will be out for Game 1 vs. Utah on Saturday and significant concern remains for his availability Monday in Game 2, sources tell ESPN,” Wojnarowski tweeted. “Mavs will play long game w/ injury and take it day-by-day after playing without him Saturday.”

The absence of Doncic is a significant blow to the Mavericks ahead of game one as the fourth-year guard leads Dallas in nearly every major statistical category.

Doncic leads the Mavericks in points, rebounds, assists, steals, field goal attempts, minutes, and usage.

The guard is the NBA’s third-leading scorer and the league’s fifth-leading assist man.

Doncic appeared in 65 games for the Mavericks this season and the team had a record of 44-21 with him on the court. When the three-time All-Star was off the floor, Dallas was just 8-9 in 17 absences.

The Jazz and Mavericks are set to open the NBA Playoffs on Saturday at 11 am MT in Dallas at the American Airlines Center.

The game can be heard on KSL NewsRadio and The Zone Sports Network. The series opener will be televised on ESPN, AT&T SportsNet, and FuboTV.
