SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah Jazz announced that fifth-year guard Donovan Mitchell will miss the team’s upcoming road trip due to injury.

The franchise shared the news on Sunday, December 26.

A day earlier, Mitchell suffered a left low back strain during the first half of Utah’s Christmas win over the Dallas Mavericks.

The Jazz said that Mitchell would not travel on the road for the next two games and would remain in Salt Lake City to continue treatment to recover from the injury.

Despite suffering the injury against Dallas, Mitchell returned to the court and led the Jazz to a four-point win over the Mavericks. The Louisville product finished with a game-high 33 points on 11-26 shooting, including 1-7 from beyond the arc. He added three rebounds, three assists, and three steals in 35 minutes of action.

This season, Mitchell is averaging 25.4 points per game, which ranks ninth among all NBA players.

Utah’s next two games are away from Vivint Arena. The Jazz face the San Antonio Spurs and Portland Trail Blazers before returning home for a New Year’s Eve game against the Minnesota Timberwolves.

The Jazz currently own a 23-9 record, which is third-best in the league.

Utah’s next game is against San Antonio on Monday, December 27 at 6:30 p.m. (MDT). The game will be broadcast on AT&T SportsNet, NBA League Pass, and The Zone Sports Network.
