SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah Jazz suffered their third straight loss, falling to the Charlotte Hornets 107-101.

The Jazz are now 1-3 to open their six-game road trip as they prepare to head to Dallas on Sunday.

Donovan Mitchell had 26 points to lead the Jazz, but missed a crucial layup in the final seconds of the game that would have given the team an opportunity to win this game.

First Quarter

The Jazz got off to a good start taking advantage of the Hornets’ willingness to let them shoot threes.

In the first quarter alone the Jazz attempted 15 threes but knocked down only five.

The Hornets also knocked down five threes but needed just eight attempts to do it.

A late steal and assist from Trent Forrest to Jordan Clarkson gave the Jazz a 24-23 lead after one.

Second Quarter

Without Whiteside or Azubuike available, the Jazz were forced to go small with Juancho Hernangomez, Rudy Gay, or Eric Paschall at center and the Hornets took advantage.

The Jazz struggled to get stops and gather rebounds against the Hornets’ more athletic lineup.

After a strong push to close the half from the Hornets, Mitchell hit a deep three to cut their lead in half heading into the break.

At halftime, the Jazz trailed the Hornets 54-51.

Third Quarter

The Jazz struggled to generate offense early in the third quarter squaring just four minutes in the first five minutes of the second half.

Defensively, the Jazz were slow to grab rebounds giving the Hornets seven second-chance opportunities where they were able to build on their halftime lead.

The Hornets scored nine second-chance points in the third, but a Clarkson buzzer-beater to end the third erased a nine-point deficit, giving the Jazz a one point lead heading into the fourth.

After three, the Jazz led the Hornets 78-77.

Fourth Quarter

The Hornets rebuilt their lead to six off of turnovers and bad shooting, but the Jaz answered with a 7-0 to retake the lead in the final minutes of the fourth.

However, the Jazz failed to take care of the ball in some of the most important possessions of the game and it cost them an opportunity to get a victory.

Mitchell led the Jazz with 26 points but missed a crucial layup late in the game that cost the Jazz an opportunity to earn a win. The Hornets got 26 points from Miles Bridges and 25 from Terry Rozier.

The Jazz fell to the Hornets 107-101.
