SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah Jazz are converting the contract of two-way guard Trent Forrest to a standard NBA deal ahead of their regular season finale.

In order for Forrest to be available for the postseason, the Jazz had to make him a full-time member of the roster.

Forrest has been on the roster on a two-way deal for the last two seasons which allows him to split time between the Jazz and the G League affiliate Salt Lake City Stars at a reduced cost.

The Jazz had 14 roster spots filled, and used the final open spot to sign Forrest for the remainder of the season.

Forrest joined the Jazz on a two-way deal after going undrafted out of Florida State in the 2020 NBA draft.

The defensive-minded guard worked his way into the Jazz rotation during his rookie season amid a slew of injuries to the Jazz backcourt and resigned with the team last offseason on another two-way deal.

Forrest has career averages of 3.1 points, 1.7 assists, and 1.6 rebounds in 90 appearances with the Jazz including six career starts.

The guard shoots 48 percent from the floor and 19 percent from the three-point line.

Forrest has been unable to see the floor recently after suffering two injuries late in the season.

First, the guard was diagnosed with a concussion after catching a stray elbow from Jazz teammate Rudy Gobert in the team’s March 29 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers.

After missing three games, Forrest returned against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Wednesday but left the game due to a left foot sprain midway through the second quarter.

Forrest has been ruled out against the Portland Trail Blazers in the Jazz regular season finale and will be reevaluated weekly ahead of the postseason which begins next weekend.

ESPN NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski was the first to report the news of Forrest’s contract.
