SALT LAKE CITY – Former Utah Jazz and current Charlotte Hornets forward Gordon Hayward will miss the NBA Play-In Tournament.

On Sunday, April 10, the Hornets announced that Hayward would be sidelined indefinitely because of discomfort in his left foot and would be re-evaluated in a couple of weeks.

“The Charlotte Hornets announced today that forward Gordon Hayward will be out indefinitely with continued discomfort in his left foot. Hayward’s foot will be placed in a cast to immobilize his foot and he will be re-evaluated in approximately two weeks.” – Charlotte Hornets

Hayward has only played in one game since he suffered a sprained ankle on February 7.

He missed 22 straight contests before returning to Charlotte’s lineup on April 2. He played 17 minutes against the Philadelphia 76ers. Since then, Hayward has missed the final four games on the Hornets’ regular season slate.

Due to continued discomfort, the former Jazzman won’t play in Charlotte’s play-in contest to try and qualify for the playoffs.

The No. 10 seed Hornets, along with the Brooklyn Nets, Cleveland Cavaliers, and Atlanta Hawks are set to play in the Eastern Conference play-in games.

Charlotte will play the No. 9 seed Atlanta Hawks on Wednesday, April 13 at 5 p.m. (MDT) on ESPN.

Hayward is currently in his second season with the Hornets. During his time in Charlotte, Hayward has been limited because of injury and has only played in 93 games with the Hornets.

This season, Hayward is averaging 15.9 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game in 49 games.

Hayward was originally drafted by the Jazz in 2010 and played the first seven seasons of his NBA career in Utah.
