Donovan Mitchell’s 30 Points Not Enough To Cool Off Jimmy Butler, Miami Heat

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Donovan Mitchell’s 30 points weren’t enough for the Jazz to cool off Jimmy Butler and the Miami Heat and Utah suffered its seventh loss of the season.

The Heat hosted the Jazz on Friday, February 26.

Hot shooting by Miami resulted in a 124-116 loss for Utah.

It was the fifth consecutive victory for last season’s Eastern Conference champions.

Butler finished with a game-high 33 points and ended two assists shy of a triple-double.

Playing from behind

After the Jazz took a four-point lead into the second quarter, Miami turned up the heat.

The Heat outscored the Jazz by eight points in the second quarter to lead 57-53 at halftime.

In the third quarter, Utah responded with 41 points but still trailed going into the final quarter.

Over the final 12 minutes of action, Butler and the Heat outscored the Jazz by six points and won by eight.

The Jazz finished the contest shooting 42.6 percent overall but 32.6 percent from beyond the arc. The Jazz buried only 15 three-pointers.

Utah allowed Miami to shoot a scorching 51.2 percent from the field, including 46.7 percent on triples.

Butler scored his 33 points on 12-22 field goals and 9-11 from the free throw line. He also had 10 rebounds, eight rebounds, and a steal in 35 minutes.

Goran Dragic poured in 26 points off Miami’s bench.

Six Jazz players ended up scoring in double figures, including Mitchell, Rudy Gobert, Bojan Bogdanovic, Mike Conley, Joe Ingles, and Jordan Clarkson.

Mitchell scored his 30 points on 11-26 shooting, including 2-9 from distance. He went 6-8 from the charity stripe. Mitchell added six boards, three assists, and three steals to lead the Jazz.

Gobert had a double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds. He also had one assist, one steal, and two blocks.

Ingles and Clarkson combined for 26 points off the bench.

Up Next

With the loss, the Jazz fell to a record of 26-7 on the season and 11-5 on the road.

Utah’s next game is against the Orlando Magic on Saturday, February 27 at 6 p.m. (MDT).

The game will broadcast on AT&T SportsNet and 97.5 FM.
