SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Donovan Mitchell will appear on the cover of Slam Magazine. The Utah Jazz guard will appear in the Kicks 23 edition of the magazine celebrating the release of his second signature shoe, the D.O.N. Issue #2 from Adidas.

In an interview with the magazine Mitchell discusses his new shoe release, and the different colorways he’s used for spreading awareness regarding social matters from the death of George Floyd to the Australian Bush Fires.

“My biggest thing that I love doing the most is giving back to those in need—so being able to bring awareness, to spread awareness, to give back, those are things that I really pride myself on,” Mitchell told Slam. “So, for me, it was just like, OK, how can I go about doing it with my shoe?”

Mitchell said he wants his shoes to do more than simply raise awareness for specific causes when he wears them. The Jazz star said he hopes they can be a source of opportunity for members of underrepresented communities.

“I want to be able to create something where there are jobs or positions that can be filled in the company in my design process,” Mitchell said. “Having kids from HBCUs, or having African-Americans, minorities, coming from different schools, to come and help me with my design process. There are a lot of talented African-American men and women out there who I feel can use this as an opportunity to propel themselves into that world.”

The full magazine will hit the shelves in early September.

D.O.N. Issue #2 Accompany Mitchell On The Cover

After months of rumors, the D.O.N. Issue #2 signature shoe has a confirmed release date. After several release dates were changed due to the coronavirus pandemic, teamed with the return of the NBA season, Mitchell tweeted that shoes will be available to the public on August 28.

Mitchell shared the tweet, advertising a “Spidey-Sense” theme for the shoes to debut later this months. The Utah Jazz All-Star is teaming with Marvel for the release, after earning the nickname ‘Spida’ after the superhero Spiderman.

“Get Ready!!” Mitchell tweeted. “DONISSUE2 SPIDEY-SENSE dropping August 28th.”

In addition to his social messaging driven custom designs, Mitchell has worn several editions of his Crayola themed release of the shoes. The first release of Marvel and Crayola themed shoes are set to begin hitting the stores by the end of August.
