SALT LAKE CITY – Utah Jazz guard Donovan Mitchell was spotted talking to Francisco Lindor while sitting behind home plate at the New York Mets game Tuesday night.

Mitchell, a die-hard Mets fan, was chatting with Lindor who was in the on-deck circle waiting for his at-bat in the bottom of the sixth inning against the St. Louis Cardinals.

The All-Star guard was recognized by the announcers talking to the Mets shortstop.

“I wonder what kind of advice Donovan Mitchell had for Lindor?” The Mets announcer asked.

“Play like I play,” the Mets color analyst replied.

Mitchell must have told Lindor to be patient, as the high-priced infielder drew a walk in the Mets doubleheader against the Cardinals after the conversation.

Lindor has struggled since joining the Mets on an astronomical 10-year, $341 million contract signed in April of 2021.

The Mets star had a strong start to the season but has struggled in May with a .150/.243/.267 slash line since the beginning of the month.

Lindor went 1-7 in Tuesday’s doubleheader, including a game-ending strikeout with the tying run on second base in the Mets 4-3 loss.

Mitchell’s father, Donovan Mitchell Sr. works in the Mets organization and the Jazz guard grew up as a multisport athlete playing both baseball and basketball.

The All-Star guard is not shy about his Mets fandom, regularly talking about the team during the NBA season and live-tweeting the games.

Last August amid the Mets late-season collapse, fans in New York began booing the team for underachieving. When Lindor, Javier Bรกez, and Kevin Pillar began responding to fans by showing them a thumbs down after getting on base, Mitchell sided with the Mets players.

“I’m here for it,” Mitchell replied jokingly.

There has been less to boo about from fans in New York so far this season. The Mets currently sit at 24-14, atop the National League East with a six-game lead over the Philadelphia Phillies.
