Donovan Mitchell, Jordan Clarkson Lead Utah Jazz In Record-Setting Game 2 Win Over Nuggets

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Jazz guards Donovan Mitchell and Jordan Clarkson recorded superb offensive performances and led Utah to a franchise playoff record 20 made three-pointers in a Game 2 victory over the Denver Nuggets.

The Jazz blasted the Nuggets 124-105 to tie the series 1-1.

Utah’s previous record for made triples in a postseason game was 16, which occurred in Game 1 of the series on August 17.

After allowing the Nuggets to shoot a blazing 53.7 percent from distance in the first game of the series, the Jazz repaid the favor shooting 45.5 percent from deep in Game 2.

Overall Utah shot 51.7 percent on field goal attempts and at one point in the fourth quarter held a 31-point lead.

Mitchell finished with a team-high 30 points on 10-14 shooting, including 6-7 from beyond the arc. The third-year guard helped Utah pull away after halftime with 21 points during the third quarter alone.

“He thinks the game,” Jazz head coach Quin Snyder said of Mitchell after the win. “He cares about his teammates and he wants to win —that, for him, trumps any individual performance.”

Clarkson poured in 26 points off the bench. He shot 9-18 overall and 4-9 from downtown. The sixth man posted a plus-22 rating to lead Utah’s second unit.

Jazz starters Rudy Gobert, Joe Ingles, and Royce O’Neale recorded excellent performances to help Mitchell and Clarkson.

Gobert and Ingles helped round of Utah’s offensive production with a combined 37 points.

Gobert had 19 points on 7-10 field goals while Ingles scored 18 points on 7-12 shooting. Ingles shot 4-9 from three and had 6 assists on his way to a team-high plus-31 rating during his 34 minutes of action.

O’Neale played great defense and dished out a career-high eight assists.

Denver was led by Nikola Jokic and Michael Porter Jr. who scored 28 points apiece. Nuggets guard Jamal Murray cooked the Jazz late in Game 1 was limited to 14 points in Game 2.

Game 3 between the Jazz and Nuggets will take place on Friday, August 21 at 2 p.m. (MDT).

The game will broadcast on TNT, AT&T SportsNet, and 97.5 FM.
