SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The Utah Jazz open their season on October 20, just 47 days from today. With the countdown ongoing of 50 things for Jazz fans to look forward to leading up to the 2021-22 NBA season, we turn to rookie MaCio Teague.

Jazz Rookie Macio Teague

The Jazz agreed to an Exhibit 10 contract with Teague on draft night after the former Baylor guard went undrafted, though the deal wasn’t made official until August 15 midway through the Las Vegas Summer League.

Teague played with rookie draft pick Jared Butler at Baylor where the two, along with Sacramento Kings lottery pick Davion Mitchell made up the best backcourt in college basketball last season, leading the Bears to the national championship.

At 6-foot-4 and 195-pounds, Teague has solid size for a combo guard in the NBA, and a proven scoring touch after averaging 15.9 points on 47.8 percent shooting during his final season at Baylor.

The former Bear led all Jazz scorers in the Salt Lake City Summer League averaging 15.3 points per game which he followed up with a healthy 10.4 points per game average in Vegas.

Where Teague tipped off his real intrigue, however, was in the Jazz Las Vegas finale where for the first time, he started at point guard. Teague showed off previously unseen playmaking skills as he recorded 12 assists, the most of his basketball career, including college, while adding 17 points on 7-15 shooting.

As an Exhibit 10 signee, the Jazz will bring Teague into training camp on a non-guaranteed minimum contract which they can waive at any time, but still control the rookie’s G League rights. They can then assign him to the Salt Lake City Stars or sign him to a two-way contract.

To date, the Jazz have only used one of their two two-way contracts for second-year guard Trent Forrest.

With an aging Mike Conley and Joe Ingles on the roster, Teague could factor into the Jazz future, and that’s why he’s one of the 50 things Jazz fans should keep an eye on leading up to the regular season.
