SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Perseverance. That’s the theme of Thanksgiving this year for Real Salt Lake fans.

The club has endured more improprieties than it is deserving of over the last handful of years. From the Mike Petke controversy to the recent Dell Loy Hansen scandal, RSL is currently on fire and up in smoke.

If you, as a fan, think the last couple of years has been difficult supporting the club, imagine what it must be like for the hundreds of employees that have worked within the organization.

The constant scandal and rumor surrounding the deficiencies and structure of the organization has been well documented and the employees have had to endure every ounce of it.

Consequently, the play on the field suffered in 2020. The team did not look or feel like most RSL teams of old and one would have to assume that the off-field scandals ultimately affected the performance on the field.

But despite all of the negativity surrounding RSL, the players, coaching staff and employees have persevered through it all together. Times have been tough and going to work has presumably been difficult but here we are entering Thanksgiving in 2020 and hopeful that life at RSL will improve.

The employees at the club are resilient and strong.

The future of the club is looking brighter. Hansen is selling. Renowned energy will hopefully follow and the club can begin its rebuild shortly.

New faces will also likely enter the realm when Hansen sells. New ownership has the potential to energize the workplace environment and create better and happier lives for the employees.

Creating a positively contagious culture will be priority number one for the new ownership group. The example set starts from the top and trickles down, it’s business 101.

But for now, RSL fans can enjoy a hearty Thanksgiving meal knowing that the worst has come and that the future looks bright. With a stroke of fortune, RSL fans can continue to dream that the year 2021 will also provide a return to Rio Tinto Stadium and a chance to cheer for their beloved Claret and Cobalt.

Happy Thanksgiving RSL fans, you deserve it.
