Before many fans had found their seats, Diego Luna made a pass from midfield to a streaking William Agada on the left side. Agada sent a one-touch roller into the box that Gozo tracked down.
The young midfielder fired a right-footed shot before New York’s Anthony Marcucci could react in front of the net. The rocket skipped off of Marucci’s left heel and into the netting for a 1-0 lead.
It was Gozo’s fourth goal of the season.
New York has piled up six fouls in the opening 15 minutes of play as RSL controls possession.
