Real Salt Lake’s Diego Luna Called Into U.S. Under 20 Side

SALT LAKE CITY – Real Salt Lake’s Diego Luna has been called into the United States under-20 training camp.
Luna, 19, will join the U.S. U-20s in Tampa, Florida for the team’s first training camp of 2023. Luna will be away from Real Salt Lake until January 28.

“Whenever I get the chance to have the USA badge on my chest, I am honored to represent this country,” said Luna, 19, prior to departing Real Salt Lake’s 2023 preseason camp in Utah. “I’m excited to reconvene with the boys and the staff, as we prepare for a big year in the run-up to the Youth World Cup in Indonesia. We learned a lot as a group through CONCACAF qualifying, I learned and grew a lot in my months at Real Salt Lake, and I’m looking forward to taking us to a whole new level.”
For Real Salt Lake fans expecting to see a lot of Luna on the pitch in 2023, the young prodigy will have a first half to the season that will involve multiple international departures.
The U.S. under 20 side will depart for Indonesia in May.

Luna has starred for the U.S. under 20s previously. In 2022, Luna led the U.S. to victory in the CONCACAF Championship where he concluded the tournament with five assists and a goal.
Luna joined Real Salt Lake in May of 2022 and enjoyed 13 appearances and three starts in his first season in Major League Soccer. Luna is highly regarded as one of the brightest young players to come through the American pipeline and will likely enjoy many more international call-ups for years to come.
Real Salt Lake is currently in the midst of pre-season training in Herriman, Utah. The club was scheduled to travel to California but was forced to abandon its plans due to unforeseen flooding in the Santa Barbara region.
