Pablo Mastroeni Interested In Remaining With Real Salt Lake Regardless Of How Coaching Search Concludes

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Real Salt Lake interim manager Pablo Mastroeni is optimistic the interim tag next to his name will be removed, but regardless of how the coaching search concludes, Mastroeni is optimistic that his role at Real Salt Lake will remain in one capacity or another.

For the record, Mastroeni has not received a second interview with the front office of Real Salt Lake. Despite reports suggesting that Philadelphia Union assistant coach Pat Noonan has flown in and out of Utah to speak for a second time with the Real Salt Lake executives.

Mastroeni is taking every day as a new opportunity to grow. The journey he is currently on is defined as the “journey of love” according to him. He loves coaching, understanding his players on a deeper level, and creating a workplace environment that is revolved around healthy competition.

For the record, I don’t like asking these sorts of questions. They are uncomfortable and feel like some sort of invasion of privacy.

His affection for Real Salt Lake has grown tenfold since joining the organization as an assistant coach earlier this year. In fact, his affection has grown so much that even if he is not appointed as the full-time manager, he is willing to stick around and play whatever role he is asked to do.

“Yes, I would be open to that,” Mastroeni said when asked about a continued role with Real Salt Lake if he were not to be appointed as manager. “For me, coaching is coaching, it doesn’t matter what your role is, you’re always learning something and you’re always growing. So I am looking at this new profession as a journey of love, you know, there are going to be ups and downs, there are going to be different positions, but it is all about learning and when the moment is right the opportunity will appear.”

The timeline for Real Salt Lake to appoint a new manager is not known. Real Salt Lake seems in no apparent rush to appoint a new manager of the club, however, the longer the search goes and the more success Mastroeni has as an interim, the more likely it would seem that his role at Real Salt Lake will grow.
