SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Utah native and PGA Tour golfer Tony Finau climbed into the top five at the Genesis Invitational after a great performance on the fourth and final day.
The 99th Genesis Open took place at the Torrey Pines South Course in San Diego, California, from Thursday, February 13, to Sunday, February 16. The PGA Tour event is typically held at the Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, California. Due to the Las Angeles wildfires, it was relocated.
Tony Finau Posts Fourth-Best Score In Final Round At Torry Pines
In the opening round on Thursday, Finau finished at four-over-par and was questionable to make the cut on day two, let alone be in contention for the purse.
One day later, he was able to comfortably make the cut after posting a -3 through 18. Things really started to click in the third round for the Salt Lake City native. He had his best round of the tournament at -5 and jumped 20 spots up the leaderboard.

After starting his fourth round with five straight pars, his chances of competing for the top spot drastically faded. But there was still a lot at stake. He closed the front nine with two birdies, a par, and a bogey.
He closed out on the back nine with six more pars and three birdies. He finished the round at four-under-par which put his total score at -8.
Finau closed out the Genesis Invitational with the most strokes saved around the green, the fifth-most strokes saved in total, and the 13th furthest distance off the tee.
For his top-five finish, Finau walked away with $736,500 in prize money.
