GREEN BAY, Wisc. – The Kansas City Chiefs selected former Kearns High School standout Jeffrey Bassa with the No. 156 overall pick during the fifth round of the 2025 NFL Draft.

The NFL Draft was held in Green Bay, Wisconsin, from April 24-26. The event was televised on ESPN, ABC, and the NFL Network.

Bassa was the 13th linebacker picked in the draft.
The former Cougars star will join a Kansas City team that finished with a 15-2 record in 2024. Kansas City advanced to the Super Bowl before losing to the Philadelphia Eagles.
About Jeffrey Bassa
Bassa was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, and attended Kearns High School, where he was a four-year letterwinner and two-year team captain.
With the Cougars, he posted 138 tackles (86 solo), five sacks, 17 tackles for loss, four interceptions, and 10 pass breakups. Bassa also played on offense and recorded 51 catches for 1,016 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns.

Rivals ranked Bassa as a four-star recruit, No. 1 safety in Utah, No. 4 recruit in Utah, and the 31st best safety in the country. He was recruited by Arizona, Arizona State, Baylor, Hawaii, Kansas, Louisville, Oklahoma State, Oregon State, Syracuse, UNLV, Utah, Utah State, and Washington State. Bassa committed to Oregon, where he eventually transitioned to a linebacker.
In four years with the Ducks, Bassa posted 237 total tackles (126 solo), 14.5 tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks, three interceptions, seven pass breakups, and two forced fumbles.
His college career accolades include Fiesta Bowl Defensive MVP, 2023 All-Pac-12 second team, and All-Big Ten honorable mention. In 2024, Bassa was named to the Bronk Nagurski Trophy watch list, the Butkus Award watch list, and the Lombardi Award watch list.
