Jason Buck: ‘I Will Be A Washington Redskin Forever’

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Former BYU defensive end Jason Buck took to Facebook to express his thoughts about his time with Washington’s NFL team, formerly known as the Redskins after the team announced they were changing the name of the franchise.

“I will be a Washington Redskin forever,” Buck’s post started.

Buck played for the team in the early 1990s (1991-93). While he was with the team, he won a Super Bowl ring in Super Bowl XXVI against the Buffalo Bills.

“I will always love my Redskin brothers that I played with, the Redskin family and all of our awesome Redskin fans that are part of that special family,” the post finished.

In the post, Buck included photos of himself from his playing days.

Jason Buck’s Career: From Ricks College To BYU To NFL

Buck’s college career started at Rick’s College before he went to BYU. At BYU Buck won the Outland Trophy, the award given to college football’s best interior lineman.

In 1987 Buck was drafted in the first round of the NFL Draft by the Cincinnati Bengals. He played for the Bengals until moving to the (formerly) Redskins in 1991.

Buck retired from professional football in 1993.

Washington’s NFL Team Name Change

The franchise announced Monday they would no longer be called the “Redskins”, after pressure from sponsors and years of criticism that the name was offensive to Native Americans.

They are also dropping the Indian head logo and branding.

The NFL and team have not decided on a new name or branding but expect a decision before the beginning of the 2020 season.
