SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Tony Finau enters the weekend at the Farmers Insurance Open tied for the lead with seven other players after an impressive second-round.

Finau shot a second-round five-under-par to move to eight-under on the tournament.

His Friday performance was impressive due to the difficult weather conditions that the players were faced with. High winds and torrential rain rocketed the California coast, eventually suspending the play shortly after Finau concluded his round.

His round involved one bogey, four birdies, and an eagle on the par-four seventh hole.

“Mentally I just told myself to hang in there,” Finau said following his Friday round. “I made an eagle on the seventh hole which is always good for the scorecard, I stayed patient all day and told myself that it was going to be a tough day no matter what golf course you’re on and I did a good job of just hanging in there.”

Yesterday, Finau shot a three-under-par on the South Course. Today he battled the North Course at Torrey Pines alongside Pat Perez and Brandt Snedeker.

The pressure is beginning to mount on Finau who continues to play good golf but is yet to be rewarded for his efforts. His only win on the PGA Tour came in 2016 when he won the Puerto Rico Open.

Last week, he found himself in the lead by one shot after the first hole of the final round but was unable to convert his performance into a win, eventually losing to Si Woo Kim by four shots.

“I knew after last week that I had some good mojo going. I was quite enthusiastic about my finish because I was coming off playing some not so good golf a short time before, so I wanted to ride that momentum into this week and I was able to do that,” Finau said.

“It is all about winning, I know sports is all about winning. I am now at that point in my career where that’s what I am chasing. I have set myself up nicely here with 36 holes to go and I am looking forward to the weekend,” he added.

Tee times are yet to be announced ahead of the weekend’s play at the Farmers Insurance Open. Finau will likely tee off as one of the final groupings considering he is tied for the lead.

Over the years, Finau has performed well at Torrey Pines. Last year, he finished in a tie for sixth place, five shots behind eventual champion Marc Leishman.
