SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Tony Finau is in the field for this week’s Farmers Insurance Open and will play alongside Pat Perez and Brandt Snedeker for the first two days of the tournament.

Finau will tee off at 7:20 a.m. on Thursday off the first tee of the Torrey Pines south course before teeing off at 8:20 a.m. on Friday at the north course.

Last year, Finau finished in a tie for sixth at the Farmers Insurance Open, five shots behind Marc Leishman who pocketed $1.35 million for his victory.

Last week, Finau was tied for the lead entering the final day only to eventually lose by four shots to Si Woo Kim who took home The American Express trophy. This week will prove as yet another test for Finau to be in contention come Sunday.

Thus far, Finau has only won one PGA Tour event in his career. His lone victory came at the 2016 Puerto Rico Open, where only Viktor Hovland has gone on to win another PGA tournament following victory in Puerto Rico.

“Usually when I walk off the 72nd hole I have a pretty good sense of how long it’s going to sting. I’m pretty encouraged right now,” Finau said immediately following his loss last week. “I’ve got to get a little bit better to win again, so it’s an encouraging week on a lot of levels.”

Fortunately, Finau is staying optimistic and encouraged with his game. No added stress or pressure seems to be weighing on the Salt Lake City native. However, deep down the anxiety surrounding his second PGA Tour victory must be stinging. For a player of his skill set and calibre, there is no viable reason that he should only have one career victory at this point in his career.

Could this be the week that Finau answers his doubters?

Finau is playing a good brand of golf. He is driving the ball well, hitting his irons and wedges purely, but on Sunday at The American Express Finau missed two four foot putts that proved costly.

If Finau was to win this upcoming week, his putting must improve.
