SALT LAKE CITY – Tony Finau has concluded the 2021/22 FedEx Cup season ninth in the standings following a breakout year that saw Finau secure two PGA Tour victories for the first time in his career.

Tony Finau Season At A Glance

Finau began the year with momentum following his Northern Trust victory late last year but began the 2021/22 year with just 1 top 10 finish from his first 13 tournaments. His T7 finish at the Hero World Challenge was the only top 10 finish for Finau before he concluded the Mexico Open at Vidanta in a share of 2nd.

Towards the end of May, Finau was struggling to convert his impressive ball striking into results. But that all changed at the Charles Schwab Challenge when he finished in a share of fourth. Two weeks later, Finau ended the RBC Canadian Open in lone second place and fans of Finau began to believe that he was on the verge of breaking through in 2022.

Finau picked up his third career victory at the 3M Open and backed up an impressive outing with another win the following week at the Rocket Mortgage Classic.

Prior to the 3M Open win, Finau was listed 30th in the FedEx Cup standings. But following the Rocket Mortgage Classic win he transcended all the way up to fifth.

The consecutive victories will be what Finau is remembered for during 2022. It was the first time in his career that he had won more than one PGA Tour event in a calendar year, it just so happened that his two wins in 2022 came in back-to-back weeks.

Finau At The Majors

The 2021/22 major golf season was slightly disappointing for Finau given he failed to contend at a major. At The Masters, Finau posted his second-worst finish at Augusta National with a T35 finish. A month later he concluded the PGA Championship in a tie for 30th despite having finished inside the top 10 in his previous two starts at the PGA Championship.

He was cut for just the 5th time in 26 major starts at the U.S. Open. Of his 5 cuts at majors, 3 of them have occurred at the U.S. Open.

He concluded his major golfing year with a T28 finish at The Open. Finau never was able to make a run and contend at The Home Of Golf despite showcasing impressive links golf ability in previous Opens.

Money, Money, Money

In a golfing world that is dominated by the conversation surrounding money with the addition of LIV Golf. Finau made more money in the 2021/22 season than he has ever made on the PGA Tour in the past.

Finau concluded the year having collected $6,117,886 in annual earnings, his next greatest financial year came in 2020/21 when he earned $5,740,097.

Despite the somewhat disappointing results at the majors this year Finau was still able to secure a lot of money for his efforts in other PGA Tour events. His consecutive wins late in the season provided $2,862,000 in earnings over a two-week period.

What’s Next For Tony Finau?

Finau will not be seen on a nearby television until Tuesday, September 20 when he embarks on returning the Presidents Cup to home soil. Finau qualified via points for the first time in his career for the upcoming Presidents Cup which is being hosted in 2022 at Quail Hollow Golf Club in Charlotte, North Carolina.
