SALT LAKE CITY – Tony Finau has edged his way back towards the top of the leaderboard at the Tour Championship following a four-under-par second round.

Finau now finds himself in a share of 15th but still remains a long way back from the leader Scottie Scheffler, Finau trails by 13 strokes.

At the start of the tournament, Finau started at four-under-par due to his FedEx Cup standings. Following the opening round, he dropped to two-under-par after struggling with his putter. But Finau made improvements on the greens throughout his second round and concluded with four birdies, zero bogeys, and 14 pars.

Finau was the only player in the field on Thursday that failed to convert a birdie to his scorecard. On Friday, he converted four of them and managed to post zero bogeys. A contrast difference from just a day ago.

Tony Finau Round Explained

On Thursday, Finau hit a lot of fairways and greens but failed to capitalize with his putter. On Friday, Finau found just 35% of fairways and 67% of greens but managed to notch a 1.982 in putting strokes gained.

The day, however, belonged to both Scottie Scheffler and Xander Schauffele. The two were paired alongside one another and put on a show for the galleries at East Lake Country Club in Atlanta, Georgia.

Scheffler grew his overnight lead and looked to be in complete control of the tournament. However, Schauffele made birdies on 16 and 17 before making an eagle on 18 to squeeze the gap between himself and Scheffler to just 2 strokes with 2 rounds to play.

The Tour Championship

The Tour Championship acts as the final event on the PGA Tour calendar every year. This year, the 29 players in the field will compete for the first-place prize of $18 million from a purse of $75 million. It is the largest purse and first place prize on the PGA Tour every season. Zalatoris, who withdrew prior to the tournament starting, will finish in 30th place and be rewarded a check of $500,000 for his efforts.
