SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Tony Finau has dazzled the local fans in attendance at Royal St. George’s Golf Club after shooting a four-under-par second round to position himself comfortably in the top 10 entering the weekend.

Finau’s round included six birdies, four of which came on the front nine as he made the turn at four-under-par. Sadly, however, the cracks began appearing on the 10th and 12th hole when he made consecutive bogeys to bring him back to two-under-par.

However, unlike yesterday, Finau was able to finish strong. Two closing birdies on 14 and 15 solidified a superb round of golf for Finau.

Interestingly, Finau only found the fairways 57 percent of the time. But it was his ability to find the greens in regulation, which he did 83 percent of the time. He averaged 1.67 putts per green throughout the second round, the same average from the opening round.

Bounce Back Day

Yesterday, Finau three-putted on the 18th green, double-bogeyed, and entered the clubhouse at even par despite shooting a two-under round through the 17 holes prior.

It was a disappointing ending to an otherwise brilliant opening round and left many pundits unsure as to what to expect from Finau on day two.

But he delivered. Finau’s four-under-par was only beaten by Collin Morikawa’s six-under-par. Morikawa sits atop the leaderboard by three shots after shooting his 64.

The conditions suited Finau for round two as he teed off earlier in the morning in England. The wind and the gusts that are produced are generally less severe earlier in the day as opposed to later in the afternoon.

Finau has made the cut for the first time in his previous three PGA Tournament attempts. His form at The Open continues as he hopes to better his best major finish in 2019 when he concluded in lone third at Royal Portrush.

It remains unknown what time Finau will tee off on Saturday and who he will play alongside. Finau enters the weekend currently sitting five shots off the leader, Morikawa.
