SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The state of Utah will have three local players in this week’s Utah Championship field which is being hosted by Oakridge Country Club for the fifth consecutive year.

Former BYU standouts Patrick Fishburn and Rhett Rasmussen join longtime local professional Daniel Summerhays who recently returned to the professional golf scene after retiring in June of 2020 to pursue a career in teaching and coaching at nearby Davis High School in Kaysville, Utah.

Daniel Summerhays

Last year in front of zero fans, Summerhays lost in a three-way playoff to Kyle Jones who secured his first-ever Korn Ferry Tour victory with a birdie on the second playoff hole.

Since then, Summerhays has played in two professional tournaments, he missed the cut at a U.S. Open qualifier and tied for 67th at the TPC Colorado Championship on the Korn Ferry Tour.

His decision to retire from professional golf and pursue a career in teaching and coaching lasted less than a year as his desire to return to the professional golf world became too inviting.

Nonetheless, Summerhays grew up and has played Oakridge Country Club thousands of times. His expertise and experience will likely put him in good stead to make yet another run at a Utah Championship.

Patrick Fishburn

Fishburn, 29, currently ranks 82nd on the Korn Ferry Tour having made 21 cuts from 36 events. The top 75 ranked golfers qualify for the KFT Finals where the top 25 players end up securing their PGA Tour card. Fishburn will need a strong performance this week to help build momentum in finishing inside the top 75.

The Korn Ferry Tour has five events remaining, including the Utah Championship. Fishburn’s chances of qualifying for the KFT Finals will likely rely on a strong finish in his home state.

Rhett Rasmussen

Rasmussen is currently a member of the Forme Tour. The young BYU alumn qualified for the event following an eight-under round at Talons Cove on Monday of this week to secure qualification. During his illustrious college career, Rasmussen managed to finish inside the top 20 on 27 occasions from 45 career starts. He endured a four-year career at BYU from 2016-20.

Change In Broadcast & Tee Times

Usually, the Golf Channel airs a few hours of live coverage a day from the Utah Championship. This year, however, the Golf Channel will air a replay of the coverage later in the evening as a result of the Olympics.

For fans planning on attending the event, Fishburn will tee off at 7 a.m., Summerhays at 1:05 p.m., and Rasmussen rounds out the local players at 2:15 p.m. All three local players will begin their Utah Championship campaign off the 10th hole.
