SALT LAKE CITY – Utah’s Tony Finau has made the cut at The Masters and extends his streak of five cuts made from five Masters appearances. The day, however, belonged to current world number one Scottie Scheffler who raced away to a five-shot lead, tying the largest 36 hole lead at The Masters.

Scheffler Races Away

Jordan Spieth, Raymond Floyd, Jack Nicklaus, and Herman Keiser all once led by five strokes through 36 holes at The Masters, and all four of them went on to win the Green Jacket that year.

Scheffler was one-over-par through three holes after a bogey, birdie, bogey start before rattling off six birdies throughout the final 14 holes and a second-round best of 67.

Finau’s Frustration

Finau, on the other hand, began his second round with an early birdie on the par 5 2nd hole. He then made bogey on the par 3 6th and made the turn at even-par on the day and one-under-par on the tournament. Finau bogeyed the 10th with a missed seven-foot look at par before finding water on the 11th and suffering another bogey.

The par 3 12th has caused Finau issues in the past, most recently yesterday when he found the water, but today he stuck his iron to three feet and made a comfortable birdie. It would be the only birdie of the back nine for Finau.

Bogeys then fell on 14 and 15 before making pars on 17 and 18. It was a frustrating day for Finau who struck the golf ball well but failed to capitalize with his putter.

Finau is finding more fairways and greens than in previous tournaments. He is hitting 78% of fairways which is resulting in 69% of greens in regulation.

With 36 holes remaining, Finau finds himself 10 shots behind Scheffler who leads the field at 8-under-par.

Tee times and pairings are yet to be announced ahead of Saturday’s play.
