Weber State OL Gavin Ortega Brings ‘Tremendous Football Knowledge’ To Program

SALT LAKE CITY – Senior offensive lineman Gavin Ortega is the first Weber State Wildcat to make the 2025 60 in 60 watchlist.
Wildcats head coach Mickey Mental had high praise for the road-grading lineman.
“Tremendous football knowledge,” Mental said of Ortega. “He brings a lot to the game, great leadership qualities. I think this is a big year for him, and I’m excited to see him continue to grow and develop and put everything great on tape.”
He is the only returning All-Big Sky player from 2024 for the Wildcats.
Ortega has played in 29 games with Weber State, making 22 starts.
About Weber State’s Gavin Ortega
A product of Bellingham, Washington, Ortega graduated from Sehome High School in 2022.
He joined the 2022 Weber State team, which won ten games and advanced to the FCS Playoffs. Ortega played six games as a freshman.

Ortega started ten of 11 games in 2023, paving the way for his breakout as a junior.
He earned second-team All-Big Sky recognition after starting all 12 games for Weber State. Ortega helped open holes for fellow Big Sky second-team performer Damon Bankstead. The Wildcats fielded the third-best Big Sky rushing attack in 2024.
