Real Salt Lake To Compete, Host Two Games In This Year’s Leagues Cup

SALT LAKE CITY – Real Salt Lake will compete against the best clubs in North America in this year’s inaugural Leagues Cup tournament.

RSL’s involvement in the tournament includes two home games against the Seattle Sounders and legendary Mexican club CF Monterrey.

The game against Seattle on Saturday, July 22, will be included in RSL’s 2023 Season Ticket Membership plan. Tickets to Monterrey’s visit on Wednesday, July 26, are not part of the plan. However, there will be an exclusive window for Season Ticket Members to secure their seats.

“We look forward to competing in this year’s inaugural Leagues Cup tournament, providing our Club the invaluable opportunity to compete against the best in North America,” said RSL General Manager Elliot Fall.

Real Salt Lake In The 2023 Leagues Cup

Only two of the three clubs can move on to the Round of 32. If RSL can survive the single-game elimination knockout rounds, it’s possible America First Field will host more games. This includes the possibility of high-stakes intra-league matches with Liga MX opponents.

“Continental competitions are always exciting, especially with three CONCACAF Champions League berths at stake,” Fall said. “We have a deep and proud history of CCL moments that began a decade ago, and I know our fans harbor fond memories of intense, energetic and very meaningful games on Utah soil against regional powers.”

The Leagues Cup 2023 Final and third-place game will take place on Saturday, August 19. These games will determine the three clubs that qualify for the 2024 CONCACAF Champions League.

“Kicking off the Leagues Cup this Summer at our America First Field home – especially with our history against Monterrey and Seattle – raises the excitement and intensity levels to surely unprecedented heights,” Fall said.

Real Salt Lake’s most recent game was a 2-0 loss to the Seattle Sounders on the road. In April, 2011, CF Monterrey defeated Real Salt Lake at home in that year’s CONCACAF Champions League Final.

Kickoff times and broadcast details for the matches will be released on a future date.
