SALT LAKE CITY – Weber State defeated Saint Martin’s by a final score of 82-58. The win is just the third of the Wildcats‘ season, in what has been a turbulent year thus far.

Saint Martin’s came into the game with just one loss but a tremendous scoring night carried the Wildcats to the victory.

Steven Verplancken led the way with 21 points for the Wildcats. Including an impressive second half where Verplancken took over to drive the Wildcat’s lead to 25 late on in the second half.

Verplancken did his damage from three-point range where he went 5-7 on the night. The Wildcat’s story on Saturday night was shooting. Weber shot 50 percent not only from three-point land but from the field as well. That impeccable shooting hasn’t always been there early on in what has been a rough season for the cats.

Dillon Jones also assisted with a tremendous scoring night putting up 13 points.

Junior Ballard scored 15 and with three players scoring more than 10 points the Wildcats easily took care of business against St. Martins.

A 9-0 scoring run in the first half really allowed the Wildcats to take control of the game going into halftime. For the first time all year, everything seemed to come together for Weber as scoring materialized behind what has been a league-average Big Sky defense.

Weber scored 20 points off turnovers and forced 18 on the night. Those turnovers showed through in the first half and Weber took a 40-26 lead into halftime.

The Wildcats cruised in the second half of the game, never truly being tested by St. Martins in the process.

This game marks a remarkable moment in the Weber season, the team can try and capitalize off of a gelling of offensive parts assembled this offseason in the Transfer Portal, all that matters for Weber is how the team is playing in February as the Big Sky tournament approaches.

Weber’s next game will be on December 16th against Cal Poly, that game will be played at 8 PM Mountain Time and can be found on ESPN+
