SALT LAKE CITY- Utah running backs Ja’Quinden Jackson and Jaylon Glover made the most of their carries against Arizona Saturday night at Rice-Eccles Stadium in the Utes’ impressive 45-20 win. After weeks of showing flashes of what they could be, both players really shined for the Utes against the Wildcats, but both also unfortunately left the game early with injuries.

Utah head coach Kyle Whittingham said in his post-game press conference that the status of Jackson and Glover is unknown, and they will have a better idea Sunday of what exactly is going on.

“We’ll find out more tomorrow,” Whittingham said. “I know it was upper body with JJ and lower body with Jaylon. That’s all we can say right now and we’ll see how serious they are and get a better read on that tomorrow or Monday.”

Jackson, Glover Before The Injuries

Jackson and Glover were starting to morph into a double-headed monster that the Wildcats didn’t have too much of an answer for. Combined, the two players accounted for 166 yards of Utah’s 306 total rushing yards as a team.

Jackson was running violently through most of the game gaining 97 yards on 13 carries for one touchdown. His longest run of the night was a 32-yarder while Jackson was averaging 7.5 yards per carry.

Glover demonstrated great vision in his runs Saturday night posting eight carries for 69 yards. While Glover wasn’t able to punch it in for the Utes, he was averaging 8.6 yards per carry and had a long of 19.

In total the Utes had nine rushers that together averaged 5.6 yards per carry and ran the ball 55 times to help secure the win. Whittingham was overall very happy with the effort not only displayed by his running backs, but by his offensive line as well.

“The offensive line was doing a great job of blocking things up and re-establishing the line of scrimmage- knock-off on the line of scrimmage,” Whittingham said. “The running backs ran hard, and they did some good things on their own, but nobody rushes for over 300 yards without the offensive line controlling the line of scrimmage.”
