Utah Jazz Owner Ryan Smith Comments On Team’s Future Color Scheme

SALT LAKE CITY – Utah Jazz owner Ryan Smith commented on the team’s future color scheme following rumors of a black, white, and yellow rebrand.

Amid Utah’s first round playoff series with the Dallas Mavericks, discussion of the Jazz’s future colors and jerseys swirled on social media.

On Saturday, April 23, Smith sported a purple Jazz note shirt during Utah’s 100-99 Game 4 win over the Mavericks.

After the game, the second-year owner commented on a tweet about his shirt and the future of purple in the franchise’s branding.

“Purple is who we are… It’s here to stay,” Smith tweeted after the game.

In the past, Smith has said the Jazz are trying to move away from their wide mix of colors “as fast as we can.”

Jazz part-owner Dwyane Wade has also hinted about a rebrand with “some new fresh heat.”

Two days before Game 4, Craig Miller of 96.7 The Ticket in Dallas tweeted an image showing three different Jazz jerseys with a revamped color scheme.

The jerseys featured the long-discussed black and white theme, with a highlighter yellow as the third option. The jerseys offer a much more simplified branding for the Jazz sticking to a less complicated three-color scheme.

This season the Jazz have four jerseys in their rotation including a blue “Icon Edition”, white “Association Edition”, gold “Statement Edition”, and black, orange, and yellow “City Edition.”

The leaked photo would coincide with the rebranding the franchise has done throughout the team’s arena and training facilities.

During the summer of 2021 the Jazz redesigned the team’s practice facility to feature a black and white theme, while the Jazz note statue in front of Vivint Arena was repainted black and white before the regular season began.

Though the bright yellow hasn’t been a featured color in public, the team’s player photographs that adorn the tunnels below Vivint Arena were taken in front of a similar yellow background.

The Jazz haven’t undergone a full rebranding of their jerseys since 2016, but have introduced alternates, including retro jerseys and subtle alterations over the last six years ahead of the rumored redesign.

The leak jerseys haven’t been confirmed by the team as an accurate representation of upcoming plans.
