SALT LAKE CITY- Utah football rolled out their final installment of their four-part docu-series “22 Forever” Tuesday afternoon at 2:22 p.m. The last 22-minute episode went over the Utes’ incredible performance against Oregon in the Pac-12 Championship as well as their first Rose Bowl appearance. The Utes also revealed their new hand-painted helmets for the 2022 football season.

Started From The Bottom, Now We Here

From the time the 2020 football season ended it was apparent everyone in the building felt they had the makings of a special team. The final episode of “22 Forever” started with another strategic jump back in time to January of 2021 where head coach Kyle Whittingham addressed the team via Zoom about how all they had all the pieces and just needed to buy-in.

From there, the story jumped back to Senior Night against Colorado at Rice-Eccles Stadium and all the talk surrounding Utah’s rematch with Oregon on neutral ground in Las Vegas.

Mika Tafua, Devin Lloyd, and Britain Covey all mentioned the doubt they were hearing from the outside about whether the Utes could handle the Ducks for a second time in two weeks the way they had from the comfort of home. None of the players interviewed seemed to feel the same concern the critics did and it  obviously showed on the field.

A Moment Of Loudness

The final episode of “22 Forever” really honed on some of the moments that made the Pac-12 Championship particularly special.

Lloyd’s pick six garnered a ton of attention for the shear athleticism of the play, but had a much more tender moment wrapped into it than most remember. After Lloyd scored, he proceeded to throw up the “22” symbol saying in his interview for the docu-series that he went in with the mindset he was giving everything for Jordan and Aaron Lowe.

Most notably, “22 Forever” focused in on the “Moment of Loudness” created for the fans to celebrate the lives of Jordan and Lowe with the team. Director of Football Operations Adam Fry noted how powerful that moment particularly was in the championship game at Allegiant Stadium. Cornerback coach Sharrieff Shah talked about how he found Clark Phillips III in tears and understood because it was something he felt all season long.

Memorialized: 22 Forever

Utah football revealed at the end of the final episode of “22 Forever” their new hand-painted helmet for the ’22 season. It features an enlarged “22 Forever” logo on the back. To the left and the right of the helmets will be portraits of Ty Jordan and Aaron Lowe. There is no word yet as to what game the Utes plan on rolling them out for, but there is no doubt it will be another memorable moment in what has been an incredible sports story.
