SALT LAKE CITY – One week after Marc Stein reported that the San Antonio Spurs may have interest in Quin Snyder, he’s reporting that the Los Angeles Lakers may also be eying the Utah Jazz head coach.

Stein, who formerly covered the NBA for ESPN and the New York Times wrote this in his latest substack newsletter.

“Snyder has been increasingly mentioned as a potential target for San Antonio to succeed Gregg Popovich. I’ve likewise heard Snyder’s name posed as a probable Los Angeles Lakers candidate should the Lakers and Frank Vogel part ways after what has been a nightmare season in Hollywood.”

The Lakers have had a disappointing season under Vogel who led the team to a title during the COVID shortened season inside the Orlando bubble, but has been unable to replicate that success over the last two years.

Los Angeles currently sits in the ninth seed in the Western Conference and will have to win two play-in tournament games to qualify for the playoffs. Vogel was reportedly almost fired earlier this season shortly before the All-Star break.

The Jazz meanwhile own the fourth-best record in the Western Conference and will qualify for the playoffs for the sixth straight season under Snyder.

Snyder worked with the Lakers for one season under then-coach Mike Brown during the 2011-12 season.

The Jazz coach has 368 career wins under his belt, the 12th most of any active NBA coach, and is the fourth-longest tenured coach with any one team currently.

Only San Antonio’s Gregg Popovich, Miami’s Erik Spoelstra, and Golden State’s Steve Kerr have been with their franchises longer.

Snyder led the Jazz to the best record in the NBA during the 2020-21 and was named head coach of the Western Conference All-Star team.
