SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah Jazz beat the San Antonio Spurs 110-104 despite playing without All-Star guard Donovan Mitchell.

Mitchell missed the game after suffering a lower back sprain in the team’s win over the Dallas Mavericks on Christmas, and didn’t travel with the team.

The Spurs were without leading scorer Dejounte Murray who is in the NBA’s safety protocol.

First Quarter

Both teams started the game a little bit slowly without their leading scorers in Mitchell and Murray.

However, after both teams settled in the shots started to fall quickly, living up to the expectation between two teams who rank in the top six in offensive rating this season.

The Jazz shot a blistering 57 percent from the floor and 60 percent from the three-point line while the Spurs shot 63 percent from the floor.

After one, the Jazz led the Spurs 34-27.

Second Quarter

Both teams followed up their hot shooting first quarter with tough second quarters’ where the ball struggled to find the bottom of the net.

To make matters more difficult, both the Jazz and Spurs are having a hard time establishing a rhythm with some inconsistent officiating that has hurt both teams.

The Jazz got a good push in the middle of the quarter from their bench unit with Hassan Whiteside and Jordan Clarkson on the floor who combined for 18 points on 7-14 shooting.

At the break, the Jazz led the Spurs 53-43.

Third Quarter

Though the Jazz won the third quarter, it felt like the Spurs took the moment heading into the fourth.

The Jazz continued to be frustrated by the lack of calls at the rim, but to their credit, never gave up getting to the hoop.

Balanced scoring effort from the Jazz in the quarter, but San Antonio knocked down 5-9 from deep to make a late push in the third.

After three, the Jazz led the Spurs 82-70.

Fourth Quarter

The Spurs made several pushes at the Jazz lead with timely three-point shooting, but couldn’t ever close the deficit completely.

The Jazz needed to get extra contributions from the second unit with Mitchell sidelined and found it in Clarkson and Whiteside who combined for 36 points.

Four of the Jazz five starters finished in double-digits, led by Bojan Bogdanovic who had 19 points in the game.

The Jazz avenged last week’s home loss with a 110-104 win over San Antonio.
