SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – KSL Sports has confirmed via league sources that Landon Donovan has withdrawn his name from consideration as it relates to the coaching search at Real Salt Lake.

The decision behind Donovan’s withdrawal comes following the uncertainty regarding the ongoing ownership search at Real Salt Lake, league sources also confirmed to KSL Sports.

Donovan, 39, was considered, although never confirmed by Real Salt Lake, as one of the leading candidates to take over as the new manager at Real Salt Lake.

Donovan is currently the acting manager at United Soccer League club San Diego Loyal, where he also acts as a co-owner and executive VP of soccer operations.

Although no finalists are yet to be announced or confirmed, Donovan was named as a potential candidate alongside the likes of former San Jose Earthquake and Houston Dynamo manager Dominic Kinnear, current Philadelphia Union assistant coach Pat Noonan, among others.

Current interim manager Pablo Mastroeni is also considered to be a strong candidate to take over on a full-time basis.

The timeline for when Real Salt Lake is expected to make an announcement is unknown. However, no public or official offer is expected to occur before the end of the season.

Real Salt Lake General Manager Elliot Fall confirmed at a Town Hall event last week that the club will not add further disruption to the season by announcing the new head coach while the race for the playoffs continues.

Next Fixture

Real Salt Lake will travel to Chicago for a date with the Fire this upcoming Saturday, October 23rd.

It will be the final time this season that Real Salt Lake gets a week to prepare for their next fixture. The final four games will be played over a grueling two-week stretch.

Real Salt Lake versus Chicago will be available to stream for free via the KSL Sports & KSL 5 TV apps or on KSL Sports dot com.
