Jazz Split LA Trip With Blowout Win Over Lakers

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The Utah Jazz got revenge on Monday night as they picked up a 111-97 win over the Los Angeles Lakers, splitting the LA trip.

On Saturday afternoon, the Jazz dropped the first meeting of the back-to-back set with the Lakers in an overtime loss and was shorthanded. On Monday night, they had some of their key players back. Rudy Gobert, Mike Conley, Donovan Mitchell and Derrick Favors did not play on Saturday. Only Mitchell and Ersan Ilyasova was out on Monday night.

Jordan Clarkson led the way with 22 points off the bench for the Jazz on 9-of-14 shooting from the field and 2-for-4 from the three-point line. Joe Ingles scored 21 points, along with 4 rebounds and 5 assists on 8-of-11 shooting from the floor and 5-for-8 from beyond the arc. Bojan Bogdanovic added 19 points. Mike Conley had a double-double with 14 points and 10 assists. Rudy Gobert also had a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Royce O’Neale was perfect shooting the ball, finishing with 13 points on 5-for-5 from the field and 3-of-3 from downtown. He also had 9 rebounds, 5 assists and 2 blocks.

Talen Horton-Tucker led the Lakers with 22 points. Kyle Kuzma added 17 points, while both Dennis Schroder and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope scored 15 points apiece.

Jazz Get Double Digit Halftime Lead With Balanced Attack

The presence of Rudy Gobert, Mike Conley and Derrick Favors were felt from the beginning of the game. Utah was scoring the ball well for long stretches but only outscored the Lakers 29-23 in the first quarter.

The Jazz kept attacking the rim and stretching the floor to get open three-pointers and they knocked down seven triples in the first half. They outscored Los Angeles 23-19 in the second quarter to take a 52-42 halftime lead.

Three Jazz players reached double figures in the first 24 minutes. Jordan Clarkson led the way with 11 points off the bench. Bojan Bogdanovic and Royce O’Neale scored 10 points apiece. O’Neale was perfect shooting the ball, hitting all four field goals and two three-pointers. Former Ute Kyle Kuzma was the only Laker to score in double figures in the first half with 11 points.

Ingles Breaks Game Against Lakers Open With Big Third Quarter

Joe Ingles scored 13 points in the third quarter and knocked down three three-pointers on four attempts to help the Jazz dominate the Lakers. Five other Jazz players combined for 20 points in the quarter as they outscored the Lakers 33-23 and had an 85-65 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

The Aussie was quiet offensively in the first two quarters, scoring three points in the first and two points in the second quarter. He had 18 points going into the fourth quarter.

Los Angeles outscored Utah 32-26 in the fourth quarter but the Jazz still cruised to the win.

The Jazz improved their record to 43-15 on the season. They will wrap up their three-game road trip in Houston to face the Rockets. The game will take place on Wednesday, April 21 at 6 p.m. MDT on AT&T SportsNet.
