Jazz Guard Donovan Mitchell Injured, Helped Off Court During Pacers Game

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Jazz guard Donovan Mitchell suffered an injury and had to be helped off the court during the third quarter of Utah’s game against the Indiana Pacers.

The Jazz hosted the Pacers at Vivint Arena on Friday, April 16.

With 8:18 remaining in the quarter, the Jazz called a timeout after Mitchell right leg appeared to have rolled under Indiana’s Edmond Sumner.

Mitchell was unable to get up and walk off the court on his own. He was assisted to Utah’s locker room while the Vivint Arena crowd watched in silence.

Right Ankle Sprain

Shortly after Mitchell left the court, the Jazz announced that the guard had suffered a right ankle sprain and would not return against the Pacers.

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported the x-rays on Mitchell’s ankle returned negative and the Jazz guard would have an MRI later on Friday night.

Wojnarowski added that the injury is a “lower ankle sprain” and there is “early optimism that this isn’t a major injury” for Mitchell.

Donovan Mitchell vs. Pacers

During his time on the court, Mitchell had scored a game-high 22 points on 7-15 field goals, including 3-7 on three-pointers.

Mitchell also added four rebounds, two assists, and one block in 21 minutes.

Donovan Mitchell This Season

This season, Mitchell is averaging a career-high 26.9 points on 43.8 percent shooting.

Earlier this year, Mitchell was selected as an NBA All-Star for the second consecutive season.

Of the options that could have happened with that fall, ankle is probably the best case depending on the severity.
