Six Jazz Players Score In Double Figures In Utah’s Blowout Victory Over Lakers

Feb 24, 2021, 10:27 PM | Updated: 11:09 pm

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Six Jazz players scored in double figures to lead Utah to a blowout win over LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers.

The Jazz hosted the Lakers at Vivint Arena on Wednesday, February 24.

Four players in Utah’s starting lineup scored 10 points or more to carry the Jazz to a 114-89 win over Los Angeles.

Rudy Gobert and Jordan Clarkson scored 18 points apiece to lead the Jazz.

Runaway Victory

After a close first quarter that ended with the Jazz owning a one-point lead, this game wasn’t that close.

Utah came out in the second quarter and blitzed Los Angeles, 39-24.

The Jazz went into the locker room with a 16-point lead after tying a franchise record with 14 triples during the opening two quarters.

The third quarter didn’t go much better for the Lakers.

Utah began the second half on an 8-0 run and outscored the Lakers by 10 points in the third quarter.

The final 12 minutes of action were played out to appease NBA rules.

Team Effort

The Jazz shot 47.1 percent from the field and 45.8 percent from beyond the arc.

Not one player shined brighter than the others amongst the Jazz on Wednesday night.

Mike Conley and recently named NBA All-Star Donovan Mitchell both finished with near triple-double performances.

Conley got Utah off to a quick start with eight points in the first quarter. He finished the game with 14 points, eight rebounds, eight assists, and two steals.

Mitchell struggled to score for much of the first half but ended up with 13 points, 10 rebounds, eight assists, and two steals. He was two assists shy of recording Utah’s first triple-double in more than 13 years.

Bojan Bogdanovic added 15 points on five triples.

Royce O’Neale hounded L.A. and posted a team-high plus-21 rating in 31 minutes on the hardwood.

Derrick Favors came off the bench and provided 12 points and seven boards.

Davis-less Lakers

The defending champion Lakers played the game without one of their stars in Anthony Davis, who has missed multiple games in a row.

Los Angeles was also missing guard Dennis Schröder.

The Lakers struggled to score against Utah’s defensive pressure. L.A. finished the game shooting 40.0 percent overall and 24.2 percent from distance.

LeBron James led the Lakers with 19 points. He didn’t play in the fourth quarter.

Up Next

With the win, the Jazz improved their NBA-best record to 26-6 on the season.

Utah’s next game is against the Miami Heat on Friday, February 26 at 6 p.m. (MDT).

The game will broadcast on AT&T SportsNet and 97.5 FM.
