SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The Utah Jazz have waived Nigel Williams-Goss. According to the NBA’s website, the transaction was made Tuesday afternoon.

The Jazz drafted Williams-Goss with the 55th pick on the 2017 NBA draft, though the guard didn’t join the team until the 2019-20 season. After being drafted, Williams-Goss spent the 2017-18 season with the Partizan Basketball Club before signing with Olympiacos in Greece.

Williams-Goss signed a three-year, $4.8 million deal with the Jazz in 2019, though the second and third years on the contract were non-guaranteed.

In his lone season with the Jazz Williams-Goss averaged 1.4 points, 0.6 assists, and 0.6 rebounds in 10 appearances. The rookie knocked down 31 percent of his field-goal attempts and 28 percent of his three-pointers.

Williams-Goss had an impressive sophomore debut in the Jazz preseason opener scoring 15 points on 3-4 shooting and 7-7 from the free-throw line. The guard played just 3:40 in Tuesday night’s preseason victory over the Phoenix Suns.

The Jazz have one of the deeper guard rotations in the NBA with Donovan Mitchell, Mike Conley, Joe Ingles, and Jordan Clarkson all capable of handling lead guard duties. During training camp, the team signed free agent guard Shaquille Harrison, further pushing Williams-Goss down the depth chart.

Two-way guard Trent Forrest got the lion’s share of minutes Tuesday night among the end of the bench players, giving the Jazz another point guard option deep in the rotation.

The Jazz roster now stands at 14 players with guaranteed contracts, and two two-players. The team will play its final preseason game Thursday night on the road against the Los Angeles Clippers.
