ORLANDO, Fla. – The Utah Jazz controlled most of the game against the Dallas Mavericks until the fourth quarter, eventually losing to the Mavs, 122-114.

The Jazz sat their starters in the second half after having a big lead in the first half with hot three-point shooting.

Among the young guys that performed well for Utah was Rayjon Tucker with 17 points, Emmanuel Mudiay added 14 points and Georges Niang chipped in 13.

Utah shot 21 of 46 for 45 percent from the three-point line.

Tim Hardaway Jr. led all scorers with 27 points, Seth Curry contributed 22 points.

Starters Sit Second Half

The Jazz had a 70-54 lead at halftime. Head coach Quin Snyder decided to not play his starters in the second half to allow the young players gain more experience. Snyder started Mike Conley, Jordan Clarkson, Joe Ingles, Royce O’Neale and Rudy Gobert.

Clarkson finished with 18 points on 5 of 7 shooting from downtown in 14 minutes. Conley recorded 9 points in 16 minutes, Gobert had 9 points in 16 minutes on the court. Joe Ingles added 7 points in 13 minutes and O’Neale went scoreless.

Donovan Mitchell did not play due to injury. Dallas rested Luka Doncic, Kristaps Porzingis and Dorian Finney-Smith.

Hot Start From Downtown

It seemed like the Jazz wanted to break franchise records in the first half. They started by making nine three-pointers in the first quarter, which set a new franchise record for most three’s made in a quarter. Utah went 9 of 15 in the first 12 minutes of play.

In the second quarter, the Jazz added four more triples to finish the first half with 13 makes on 24 attempts. They tied the franchise record for most made three’s in a half.

Playoff Standings

Utah dropped their record to 43-28 and 2-5 in the NBA bubble. They are currently sitting in the sixth spot in the Western Conference standings. The Jazz are one game ahead of the Mavericks who are in seventh place in the West. Utah is one and a half games behind Oklahoma City for the fifth spot, two games behind and two games behind the Houston Rockets for the fourth seed.

The Jazz will play their final reseeding game of the NBA restart on Thursday against the San Antonio Spurs. The game will tip-off at 4:30 p.m. MT and will be broadcast on TNT and AT&T SportsNet.
