SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The Utah Jazz launched a quarantine cookbook cooking series on Saturday. The team teased the release on Friday before debuting with an easy dessert recipe from head coach Quin Snyder.

The Jazz will release videos of each player on the roster while the league is sidelined by the coronavirus pandemic. With help from team chef Anthony Zamora, the players are taking turns showing off their cooking skills.

Though Coach Snyder’s easy dessert recipe may not be ideal for superstar athletes, it looks like a tasty option for the rest of us.

The usually private Snyder begins the video in what appears to be his home kitchen. Furthermore, the recipe he makes he says is a childhood favorite for him and his two brothers.

“My mom made this icecream pie for all three of us boys on our birthdays,” Snyder said. “We tried to get her to make it more, but it usually became a birthday tradition.”

The simple dessert recipe is made up of just a few basic ingredients. Vanilla ice cream, Oreo cookies, a few sticks of butter, and hardening chocolate syrup.

“Some of you may be familiar with magic shell,” Snyder said of the hardening shell syrup. “Probably gets a bad rap at our practice facility. I don’t know if this is on the–it’s probably banned. On the banned list.”

Usually a stickler for the details, Snyder is a little more lenient at the food prep station.

“Don’t be deceived if it doesn’t look as pretty and appetizing,” Snyder said, “It’s really not important. It tastes good.”

From An Easy Dessert Recipe To Fine Dining

The Jazz will provide a variety of meals from their players in addition to Snyder’s easy dessert recipe. Tony Bradley has a shrimp alfredo, Donovan Mitchell offers ‘Spida’s duck,’ while Royce O’Neale celebrates Taco Tuesday’s.

Chef Zamora delivers meals to the players twice weekly while in quarantine to aid in their diets according to the team’s site.

While veteran Ed Davis will prepare a dinner of scallops and asparagus, some young players aren’t so refined. Jordan Clarkson will prepare his version of a grilled cheese sandwich. Forward Georges Niang will offer his breakfast sandwich recipe.

The Jazz plan to release the recipes over the coming weeks.

Though the team may be practicing their best at home recipes, they may soon find themselves back on the court. The NBA is preparing to allow players to return to practice facilities beginning next weekend.
