TORONTO – The Utah Jazz fought back from a large halftime deficit to set a franchise record for the most points scored in a quarter but their comeback wasn’t enough to defeat the Toronto Raptors.

The Jazz fell to the defending NBA champion Raptors 130-110 on Sunday, December 1.

Utah trailed Toronto 77-37 the break before exploding for a franchise-record 49 point third quarter. The Raptors responded in the early minutes of the final quarter to cancel the comeback and get the 20-point victory over the Jazz.

Sunday’s contest was the fourth consecutive road for the Jazz. The team came out with a lack of energy and it showed early on.

After leading 9-5, the Jazz allowed the Raptors to go on a 32-11 run to close the opening quarter. Toronto continued to pour it on during the next 12 minutes of play outscoring the Jazz 40-17 in the second quarter to stretch the lead to 40 points at the break.

Utah opened the third quarter on a 25-9 run and finished the record-setting quarter +19.

The Jazz went to the final quarter down 107-86. Toronto stabilized and pushed the scoreboard to 118-96 when Utah head coach Quin Snyder waived a white flag by pulling his starters.

Toronto outshot the Jazz 52.2-42.2 percent on field goals including a 52.8-37.1 percent advantage on shots from behind the arc. The Raptors forced 18 Utah turnovers that lead to 21 points.

Bojan Bogdanovic, Rudy Gobert, Donovan Mitchell, and Joe Ingles all had +/- ratings worse than -20. They each played more than 25 minutes.

Royce O’Neale was the only Jazz starter with a positive +/- rating with a +6. He recorded 6 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists, and a steal in 19 minutes on the court.

Mike Conley led the Jazz in scoring with 20 points on 7-13 shooting. He was 4-6 from downtown. Conley also posted 3 boards, 2 assists, and a block in the loss.

Utah fell to 12-8 on the season and 4-7 on the road. The Raptors improved to 8-0 at home and 15-4 overall.

The Jazz close a five-game road trip against the Philadelphia 76ers on Monday, December 2. The game is scheduled to tip-off at 5 p.m. (MDT). The game will be televised on NBA TV.
