Alex Smith Needed 17 Surgeries On Injured Leg

LANDOVER, Md. – Former Utah Utes and current Washington Redskins quarterback Alex Smith told the Washington Times that he had 17 surgeries to repair the damage from last year’s gruesome broken leg.
Smith has recently returned to the practice field and is throwing passes, while recovering from all of those surgeries. He told a group of medical professionals at an event earlier this month about the 17 successful surgeries that were done.
In addition to repairing his broken fibula and tibia, Smith had multiple procedures to remove tissue after he developed an infection.

It is still unclear if Smith will ever play football in the NFL again. The Redskins gave him a four-year extension worth $94 million when they acquired him via trade from the Kansas City Chiefs. Following the injury, they drafted Dwayne Haskins out of Ohio State in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft. Washington is currently 1-5 this season after getting their first victory of the season over the winless Miami Dolphins.
