Utes Stay On Top Of Power Rankings With Win Over Washington State

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – After the Utes big bounce back win over the Washington State Cougars, they remain on top of the south division in the KSL Sports Pac-12 Power Rankings.

A couple of upsets and thrilling finishes have shifted the conference once again.

Here’s the KSL Sports Pac-12 Power Rankings after the fifth week of the season:

NORTH

1. No. 13 Oregon Ducks (3-1, 1-0 Pac-12)

Result: Bye Week

Recap: Oregon is still the highest ranked team in the latest AP poll despite their bye week. They will host California on Saturday.

Next up: vs. California (4-1, 1-1 Pac-12), Saturday at 6 p.m. on FOX.

2. No. 15 Washington Huskies (4-1, 1-1 Pac-12)

Result: Beat No. 21 USC 28-14 at home.

Recap: The Huskies started the game with two straight touchdowns before USC found the end zone in the second quarter. After nailing a field goal before halftime, Washington scored 11 unanswered in the third quarter before USC scored for the second and final time. Quarterback Jacob Eason threw for 180 yards, while running back Salvon Ahmed ran the ball 17 times for 153 yards and one touchdown. Andre Baccellia recovered a fumble in the end zone with Richard Newton adding a rushing touchdown in the win.

3. California Golden Bears (4-1, 1-1 Pac-12)

Result: Lost to Arizona State 24-17 at home.

Recap: Both teams exchanged touchdowns in the first and third quarters and was tied at 14 heading into the fourth quarter. Cal took the lead with a field goal early in the period before ASU scored 10 unanswered to pick up the win. Cal quarterback Chase Garbers left the game late in the first half with an injury after throwing for 117 yards and one touchdown. Devon Modster had just 23 passing yards and one interception.

Next up: at No. 13 Oregon (3-1, 1-0 Pac-12), Saturday at 6 p.m. on FOX.

4. Washington State Cougars (3-2, 0-2 Pac-12)

Result: Lost to No. 19 Utah 38-13 on the road.

Recap: The Cougars scored all 13 points in the first half but couldn’t get anything going offensively in the second half. Quarterback Anthony Gordon threw for 252 yards, one touchdown and 2 interceptions. Running back Max Borghi was the only bright spot on offense with 51 rushing yards and 70 receiving. Washington State has lost two straight games.

5. Stanford Cardinal (2-3, 1-2 Pac-12)

Result: Defeated Oregon State 31-28 on the road.

Recap: The Cardinal had a 21-7 lead entering the fourth quarter when Oregon State tied the game at 28 late. Jet Toner hit a 39-yard field goal with one second left on the clock to give Stanford the win and snap a three game losing streak. Davis Mills threw for 245 yards and three touchdowns in place of K.J. Costello. Running back Cameron Scarlett racked up 92 yards on 24 carries.

6. Oregon State Beavers (1-3, 0-1 Pac-12)

Result: Lost to Stanford 31-28 at home.

Recap: After trailing 21-7 entering the fourth quarter, Oregon State was able to tie the game at 28 before Stanford nailed a game-winning field goal to win the game. Quarterback Jake Luton had 337 yards and one touchdown through the air, while Artavis Pierce had a great game with 141 yards and two touchdowns on 16 carries. Wide receiver Isaiah Hodgins hauled in 10 catches for 162 yards and one touchdown.

SOUTH

1. No. 17 Utah Utes (4-1, 1-1 Pac-12)

Result: Beat Washington State 38-13 at home.

Recap: The Utes didn’t have star running back Zack Moss or wide receiver Britain Covey in the win. Quarterback Tyler Huntley had a fantastic performance, completing 21 of his 30 pass attempts for 334 yards and two touchdowns through the air, while running the ball six times for 31 yards and two more scores. Devonta’e Henry-Cole racked up 79 yards on 15 carries, with wide receiver Bryan Thompson hauling in four catches for 111 yards.

2. No. 20 Arizona State Sun Devils (4-1, 1-1 Pac-12)

Result: Defeated No. 15 California 24-17 on the road.

Recap: The game was tied at 7 at the end of the first quarter and neither team scored again until the third when they exchanged touchdowns. Cal took the lead early in the fourth with a field goal before Arizona State scored 10 unanswered points to win the game. Quarterback Jayden Daniels had 174 passing yards, but running back Eno Benjamin stole the show with 100 rushing yards and three touchdowns.

3. USC Trojans (3-2, 2-1 Pac-12)

Result: Lost to No. 17 Washington 28-14 on the road.

Recap: The Trojans faced the Huskies without true freshman quarterback Kedon Slovis. Matt Fink threw for 163 yards, two total touchdowns (one passing and one rushing) and 3 interceptions in the loss. Running back Stephen Carr ran for 94 yards on just seven carries. Their defense couldn’t stop the running attack from Washington, allowing 193 yards on the ground.

4. Colorado Buffaloes (3-1, 1-0 Pac-12)

Result: Bye Week

Recap: Colorado is coming off of a bye week after a big win over Arizona State two weeks ago. They will face Arizona at home on Saturday.

Next up: vs. Arizona (3-1, 1-0 Pac-12), Saturday at 2:30 p.m. on the Pac-12 Networks.

5. Arizona Wildcats (3-1, 1-0 Pac-12)

Result: Beat UCLA 20-17 at home.

Recap: Both Khalil Tate and J.J. Taylor were out with injuries but the Wildcats were able to get the win. The game went back and forth before the Bruins had a four point lead heading into the fourth quarter. Arizona scored the go-ahead touchdown early in the final period. Quarterback Grant Gunnell threw for 352 yards and one touchdown. Wide receiver had 5 catches for 99 yards and one touchdown.

6. UCLA Bruins (1-4, 1-1 Pac-12)

Result: Lost to Arizona 20-17 on the road.

Recap: The Bruins had the lead in the fourth quarter before Arizona scored the go-ahead touchdown. Dorian Thompson-Robinson passed for 180 yards, one touchdown and one interception. Running back Joshua Kelley ran the ball 27 times for 127 yards and one touchdown.
