Ricky Rubio Signs Three-Year Deal With Phoenix Suns

PHOENIX, Ariz. – NBA free agency is off and running and it didn’t take long for former Jazzman Ricky Rubio will be heading south of the Beehive state and join the Phoenix Suns.
Rubio will sign a three-year deal worth $51 million with the young Suns team that was in need of a veteran point guard.
He will get to play with young star Devin Booker and 2018 No. 1 overall draft pick Deandre Ayton.

It was clear that Utah wouldn’t be bringing back Rubio after they acquired Mike Conley from the Memphis Grizzlies in exchange for Kyle Korver, Jae Crowder, Grayson Allen, the 23rd pick in last Thursday’s NBA Draft and a future first round pick.
Before the trade deadline in February, Rubio expressed how much he wanted to stay in Salt Lake City and play for the Jazz. He was then in reports at the deadline to be dealt to Memphis for Conley but the trade never happened.
After the season, Rubio mentioned his disappointment that the Jazz wanted to deal him to another team.
During the off-season in 2017, Rubio was traded to the Jazz for a 2018 first round draft pick. He played 145 games in Utah and posted 12.9 points and 5.7 assists.
The Suns finished the 2018-19 season with a 19-63 record. They fired their head coach, former Jazz assistant coach Igor Kokoskov and recently hired Monty Williams as the next head coach.
Free agents cannot sign their contracts until Saturday.
