SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – University of Utah running back Zack Moss and BYU back Ty’Son Williams are both hoping to fulfill their dream of playing in the NFL.

Moss is coming off of a record breaking career at Utah while Williams had his lone season at BYU cut short after a season-ending ACL injury.

Both have a chance to get drafted with Moss projected to go around the fourth round of the 2020 NFL Draft while Williams is working his way into the draft but will for sure get a training camp invite if he goes undrafted.

The Cougar Tracks and Crimson Corner podcasts joined forces to break down the ceilings for both players and if they will be mainstays in the NFL.

The full episode of the Crimson Corner and Cougar Tracks with Trevor Allen and Mitch Harper can be heard below.

Moss Has Potential To Play In NFL For 10+ Seasons

After a legendary career that saw Zack Moss break six school rushing records, the four-year Utah running back has a chance to be one of the select few that get an extended stay in the NFL.

His physicality is on a different level with his quickness and open field speed being a strength for a player of his size. Moss’ football IQ is very good and is a player that can be relied upon to catch the ball out of the backfield or even block a blitz.

The concern surrounding Moss is staying healthy. In 2018, he missed the last five games including the Pac-12 Championship and the Holiday Bowl with a season-ending knee injury. This past season in 2019, Moss missed one full game and three quarters of another with an injury while also hurting his hand in training camp.

If Moss can find the right team and get the opportunities, he has all of the traits of a mainstay in the NFL.

Williams Overcoming Obstacles

Nothing has gone Ty’Son Williams’ way in this NFL Draft process. First, he suffers a season-ending injury that ends his final collegiate season. Then just as he’s starting to recover from the ACL injury, a global pandemic rocks the world canceling all Pro Days and workouts in-person for NFL teams.

It’s unlikely Williams finds his name called during the NFL Draft later this month. But, there’s a great chance he finds a way to land a valuable undrafted free agent contract because of the numbers he was putting up at his Pro Day session at Lehi High School that was filmed and sent to NFL scouts.

Williams posted a 4.48 40-yard dash which would have ranked 6th at the NFL Combine. He also put up 24 reps in the bench press and posted a blistering 6.81-second 3-cone drill that would have been the best at the Combine.

There’s no question Williams has elite talent. Prior to his senior season, he was already on NFL radars despite his limited workload. In four games at BYU against Power Five opponents, Williams showed he has great patience and vision to turn any attempt into positive yardage. That was one of Williams’ biggest strengths in his limited time at BYU was his ability to turn a play that appeared to be doomed into positive yardage.

Williams’ love for the game of football is not in question and he’s got a great family background that NFL teams will want to see if they were to bring him in as an undrafted free agent.

But there’s no denying that Williams has the ability to make a 53-man NFL roster and whatever team lands him will be adding a standup individual who’s all about thriving on and off the field.
