Diego Luna Leads USMNT In CONCACAF 3rd-Place Match
It was pretty clear that Luna was one of the best—if not the best—players for the United States against Canada.
He played in all 100 minutes and contributed to the team’s only goal in the 35th minute.
After Canada took a 1-0 lead in the 27th, the U.S. picked up the intensity. Luna received a pass from Timothy Weah at the top of the box, drew in the defender, and unloaded to Patrick Agyemang to even the score at 1-1.

Halftime came and went with both sides still looking for that second goal and the upper hand.
Canada finally broke through in the 59th as Jonathan David curled a shot past the U.S. goalkeeper inside of the left post.
Desperation set in for the United States following Canada’s lead-taking goal. However, the defense remained solid and they weren’t able to get any shots off over the next 25 minutes of action.
In the 85th minute, a U.S. free kick ended in Luna having a straight run at the net. Canadian goalkeeper Dayne St. Clair was able to make the play to prevent a late equalizer.

The United States went on to lose, 2-1.
Despite the disappointing result, there was a lot of pride in how the MLS players fared in the match—especially Luna.
Many people shared their takes after the final whistle, and one theme stood out: the RSL star was one of the top performers in the competition.
