Skyridge Falcons Prove Too Strong For Mountain Ridge In Season Opener

LEHI, Utah – The Skyridge Falcons lived up to their lofty ranking entering 2025, throttling the Mountain Ridge Sentinels 52-17 in week one of the high school football season.
The 2025 Utah high school football season kicked off on Friday, August 15, when the Skyridge Falcons hosted the Mountain Ridge Sentinels.

Falcons QB Kaneel Sweetwyne tossed five touchdown passes and ran for another as he gave the Sentinels defense fits with his scrambling ability. Lincoln Tahi scored once on the ground and once through the air.
Jaxon Hunt scored two rushing touchdowns for Mountain Ridge.
First Quarter
Mountain Ridge took the football first to open the season. The Sentinels grabbed a 3-0 lead on a field goal after the drive stalled in Falcons territory.
Skyridge wasted zero time moving the ball down the field for the first touchdown of the season. Lincoln Tahi took a shovel pass, bounced off of several defenders, put a hand in the turf, and muscled his way into the end zone for a 7-3 lead.
The Falcons struck again minutes later when Kaneal Sweetwyne tossed a six-yard scoring pass to Talmage Oswald in the back of the end zone. The extra point gave the Falcons a 14-3 lead before most fans got settled.

Second Quarter
Mountain Ridge bounced back with its first touchdown on a rushing play early in the second period.
With the football on the doorstep, Jaxon Hunt powered over the goal line for his first score of the year.

Skyridge answered with two touchdowns to close out the quarter.
Sweetwyne orchestrated a drive that ended when Diesel Hunter caught a four-yard TD pass with 7:05 left.
After Mountain Ridge turned the ball over on downs with just over a minute left in the half, Sweetwyne marched the Falcons into the red zone with a combination of scrambling and short passes.
Skyridge increased its lead to 18 when Sweetwyne connected with Tahi for the running back’s second touchdown of the night. Tahi caught a screen pass with a cavalcade of blockers in front. He followed his linemen into the endzone from 23 yards out.

The Falcons led 28-10 at the half.
Third Quarter
Mountain Ridge began the second half by forcing a turnover when Cole Uluave came around the edge to sack Sweetwyne and force a fumble.
The Sentinels methodically moved the ball deep into the Falcons’ red zone before a quarterback sneak from inside the one-yard line made it 28-17 with the extra point.

Skyridge responded with a 43-yard Crew Odom field goal to extend its lead back to 14.
The Falcons got the football back and exerted their will on the Sentinels’ defense. Sweetwyne drove his team deep into enemy territory before connecting with senior WR Preston Kirk for six points.

The TD gave Skyridge a 38-17 lead.
Fourth Quarter
Skyridge added its sixth touchdown early in the fourth, increasing the lead to 45-17 with 10:53 left.
The Falcons forced a fumble that was recovered by Grey Sharp, essentially icing the game for Skyridge.
Hunter Sheffield used the opportunity to score his first TD when he crossed the goal line on a 24-yard pass from Sweetwyne.
Skyridge added a final late score to win 52-17.
