According to the 247Sports Composite rankings, Kaawa is considered the nation’s No. 351 overall player in the 2026 recruiting class, as well as the No. 26 quarterback nationally. He picked Alabama over a final three that included BYU and Boise State.
“Kaawa is a massive quarterback prospect with a frame that reminds us of former Clemson/Oregon State and Florida State signal caller DJ Uiagalelei,” reads a scouting report from 247Sports.
The 6-foot-4 quarterback is Alabama’s second quarterback commitment for the 2026 class.
Tayden Kaawa commits to the Alabama Crimson Tide
Kaawa, a native of Molokai, Hawaii, began playing football at Orem High last season. He passed for 2,890 yards and 28 touchdowns to only nine interceptions. Orem finished last season with a 9-3 record before falling to Timpview in state playoffs.
Kaawa is a dual-threat prospect who showed his ability to run the ball last year by rushing for 318 yards and four touchdowns.
Ranked as the sixth overall recruit in the class of 2026 in the state of Utah by the 247Sports Composite, Kaawa is the fourth player in the Top 10 of the best prospects from the Beehive State to commit to a program out of state.
Orem High School opens the 2025 football season on August 15 against the Granger Lancers.
